I'm going to start writing a Merlin/HP crossover because the BBC stole my happiness and I want it back.

I'm sorry it took me forever to reply :(

I've signed up for [ profile] paperlegends and I've already started working on it.

I haven't written fics in a long while, so I'm a bit out of practice :p But I hope I'm going to be able to finish it on time :D

Why did they steal your happiness? I'm just curious. 'Cause I stopped watching Merlin after season 4. I just couldn't stand what they did with the Arthurian legend anymore. *sniffles*

Mind if I add you to my friends list?

Basically, the finale was very bittersweet.

If you don't mind spoilers, these are the specifics:

The whole season is about Merlin trying to stop Arthur from dying at Mordred's hand. All his efforts are useless because the battle does happen anyway and Mordred injures Arthur.

Later on, Merlin reveals his secret and Arthur gets pissed. He feels betrayed and doesn't want to be anywhere near Merlin.

As the episode progresses, Arthur starts coming to terms with this new information and finally accepts Merlin for what he is ("I don't want you to change. I want you to always be you.") and even thanks him for all his help.

He dies in Merlin's arms before they can reach Avalon and then the Dragon says -more to the audience than to Merlin- that Arthur is not just a King, but the once and future King, so he will rise again, eventually, only when Albion truly needs his help.

The next scene takes place in the 21st century and it shows Merlin as an old man, still waiting for Arthur to return.

The end.

So Arthur died before fulfilling his destiny (sure, he united the Kingdoms but we never got to see The Golden Age, he didn't lift the ban on magic, Merlin never became his Royal Advisor, etc.) and Merlin has been waiting for him for about 2000 years.

Like you said, the writers never gave a damn about the Arthurian legend, but then all of the sudden, they felt the need to end the story practically the same way.

I'm a big fan of the legend, I love reading about it, but I didn't mind that this way a very loose adaptation. What bothers me is that only in the finale they decided to be somewhat canonical. It's ridiculous. If we can have a Queen that used to be a servant, why can't we have a happy ending?

And by "happy", I don't mean "Arthur and Merlin together, slashing up Camelot 24/7". If they wanted Arthur to die, fine, but they could have at least let him accomplish all the things that they promised.

Just imagine Harry dying before stopping Voldemort, "Titanic" ending before they hit the iceberg, Wendy and the Lost Boys never reaching Neverland.

That was what "Merlin"'s ending felt like. They spent five years talking about Arthur's future, Merlin's destiny, the great land of Albion, magic being allowed in Camelot again, etc., and none of that ever happened. It's really disappointing.

The episode itself wasn't bad. Arthur was brilliant and the reveal was very emotional. Colin and Bradley were simply outstanding. But it was all too rushed... Too little, too late.

Of course you can. Thank you! I just added you back :)

Thanks for your review on the finale. Now I know what I have to expect. I'll watch it someday I quess. I always do watch all seasons of my fav shows, but sometimes I just need time to prepare myself for what's to come. *sigh*
